Ontology
The authoritative reference for every primitive in matic — actors, work structures, coordination mechanisms, and governance controls — and the behavioural contracts that bind them. Schemas, CLI surfaces, filesystem layouts, and narrative guides elsewhere in the docs all derive from what is defined here. The ontology is organised across seven pages covering foundations, venture structure, actors, work, knowledge, coordination, and governance.
Start with Foundations if you are new to the system; jump to a specific domain if you already know what you are looking for.
Foundations
The five guiding principles — Proactivity, Reliability, Human-inspired execution, Parallelism, Legibility — and the filesystem-first, git-native, markdown-centric substrate every later primitive assumes. → Foundations
Venture Primitives
The highest-level organisational constructs: Org, Charter, Project, Goals, Milestones. Also covers workspace and asset primitives and the canonical filesystem layout each primitive maps onto. → Venture Primitives
Actor Model
Persistent actors in the system — Persons, Agents, Archetypes, Personas, Roles, Teams, Permissions, Probes, Skills — and the lifecycle stages actors pass through as they join, learn, and retire. → Actor Model
Work Model
How work is structured and moved through the org: Work Items, Tasks, Runs, Activations, Context Envelopes, Staffing, the full work lifecycle, and conflict resolution when parallel agents collide on shared state. → Work Model
Knowledge and Reasoning
Memory, experience consolidation, institutional knowledge capture via archetypes, and the intelligence and reasoning constructs agents use when planning, hypothesising, and learning. → Knowledge and Reasoning
Coordination
Scheduling, channels, signals, notifications, sessions, and budget and resource management — the primitives that coordinate work across time, people, and compute. → Coordination
Governance and Infrastructure
Safety and governance (policies, HITL, decisions, audit), infrastructure abstractions (adapters, provider wiring, runtime hosts), the CLI command catalog, and open specifications still being settled. → Governance and Infrastructure
